Lake Braies was one of the main reasons to organize my trip to the Dolomites this Summer. It’s considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes in South Tirol and I totally agree. The pristine view of the glass clear emerald calm waters and the imposing backdrop of the stunning Croda del Becco mountain have made the lake a very popular destination for nature lovers.
Lago di Braies, also known by its German name Pragser See, is located in Val Pusteria, in an altitude of almost 1500 meters, in the north of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park. The lake is easily reached by car and it is a starting point for numerous hikes in the area, one of which is the famed Alta Via No. 1 in the Dolomites. You can walk the pleasant path circling the lake (4 km long) and you can even hire a boat to paddle around its calm waters.
